With fifteen years experience in taxation, Murray is well placed to assist you across a variety of taxes, with both compliance and advisory matters.  Murray is the only locally born Chartered Tax Advisor who works in practice in the Western Isles.


Born and brought up in Stornoway, Murray left for Glasgow in 2000 to undertake a degree in Accountancy with Finance at the University of Glasgow.  Graduating in 2004 he commenced employment in Edinburgh with one of the largest independent Chartered Accountancy firms in Scotland where he worked in the corporate tax department.  Working on a varied portfolio, including small owner-managed businesses, but also large property development groups he had exposure to a broad range of corporation tax issues and gained particular experience in capital allowances, research and development corporation tax relief and group structures.


After leaving his role late in the winter of 2011 to travel and consider his next role, Murray then entered employment with the largest local accountancy firm in Stornoway in the autumn of 2012.  There he was involved across most of the services that the business provided; including business advisory, financial projections, book-keeping and accounts preparation, personal tax, VAT and corporation tax (both compliance and advisory / planning work).  He was also at the forefront of the push towards cloud accounting solutions with the promotion of www.xero.com across the firms client base before leaving in November 2015 to set up his own client-focused business
